J Cannon, better known to his friends and family as Jamel, has been pursuing his musical dreams since the age of 15. Even before this he has always had a love for music. Being raised in a single parent home he would always listen to 90’s R&B that his mom would play and sing along. He attributes his mother’s love for GOOD music as his help in making some of the same good music he loved as a child. Drawing influences from artist such as Blackstreet, Ma$e, Notorious B.I.G., Jay-Z even down to artist before his time like Prince, and Cameo.
J Cannon is a North Carolina native from the streets of Ayden, N.C. He has witnessed and done a lot that you will hear referenced in his music. He often refers to his upbringing in the small town as one of his many inspirations for some of the content that he speaks on his music, he also vows to never forget where he came from or lose focus on what he has helped make him the artist/person he is today. J Cannon is one seventh the Sons of Orion’s which he is “Forgotten Thursday”. The artist that people have grown to know and love states that, “I do music because it’s something I love and enjoy it brings me happiness.” He also says he just wants to be able to provide for his family, “I want to put them in a better position”. His mother and daughter are two of the biggest reasons that he has continued to press on for the dream. These women are categorized as his motivation for what he does on and off the microphone. The love J Cannon demonstrates for his daughter and mother are like no other, they give him a reason to succeed. His biggest goals are to make his family and hometown proud, also to have his family living worry free. “I want to go as far as god will take me,” he states. “I feel that is pretty far seeing that I am in the Fast Lane ha-ha” he adds.
The sound that J Cannon possess is one that an average listener of music will enjoy, a hip hop head will relate to, and ladies will love. Where the old school meets the new school, HIP HOP ROLLA; a term best describe as from the way hip hop is rolling into new genres of music but still remaining to stay hip hop. There aren’t any relations to anyone in the music industry that he knows….so don’t confuse or ask him about relations to Nick Cannon. What is in the works for J Cannon? An upcoming mixtape entitled “Fast Lane”, a host of features and freestyles for his fellow drivers as he calls them. Aside from working in the studio on his mixtapes and freestyles he’s working on more show to be closer to his fans/supporters. The kid puts on one hell of a show. Be on the lookout for this up and rising star in a city or town near you. And always remember to stay in the Fast Lane!! As J Cannon would say.
